Child Protective Services (CPS) is the name of the governmental agency in many states that deals with the welfare and safety of children. In other states it is called the Department of Children and Family Services or simply the Department of Social Services. The welfare of the children and the services provided are not limited to the United States and are found in all countries worldwide.
Their goal is to protect children, strengthen families, provide permanent homes and build community partnerships. To achieve that goal, they respond to reports of child abuse and neglect. The may be involved in supplemental nutrition assistance and child support issues. They also have branches that work with foster care and adoption.
